BChukotai Excerpts

Shabbat Shalom
(27:29) ‘A condemned person cannot
be redeemed. He shall be put to death’… Yes. According to the Rambam, somebody
who doesn’t follow the rules the leaders set forth shall be put to death… I did
not say anything about the Freimowitz family. Do they keep Shabbat? I will
leave that to you…
Did the rabbi, did I, not make a
decision that we are only doing destination Bat Mitzvahs? Just checking… Should
death be part of it? I did not say that...
Yes. I condemned Bernie last week. Because he doesn't listen. He doesn't tithe... I have to explain now? In math... Maybe in calculus, they call it a tenth of...
(27:30) ‘And all the tithes of the
land that are from the seeds of the land and the trees are Gd’s’… They are not
yours. Tithing belongs to Gd. Same with Tzedakah. Which is why it should go to
the shul. If a person shall redeem some of their money… No. Money cannot sin.
You sin. If your money goes to the shul… A raise would be the right thing. You
could do that if you didn’t work on Shabbat. You would be able to redeem
something… Something in your family would be redeemable.
(27:31) If you want to redeem the
tithe, so you can eat it anywhere[DK1] (Rashi), you add a fifth… You still have to
redeem the money in Jerusalem… They need business. Jerusalem needs business…
Where do you think the extra fifth is going?... Exactly. That’s how you make a
destination Bat Mitzvah.
(27:32-33) Cattle and flock, the 10th
one is Kodesh, for H’… No. You can’t choose which one. It is the tenth one that
passes. Not like when Mike picks his team. You can’t point all over the room
and chose ‘fair teams’ with looking at who you are picking. Acting all tough, ‘I
have been redeemed.’ No, Mike. You are a sinner. You can’t be redeemed.
(27:34) ‘These are the Mitzvot that
H’ commanded Moshe to command to Israel at Har Sinai’… Yes. Tithes and
redemptions were part of the Mitzvot told at Sinai. Being fair and picking fair
teams and making good decisions like destination Bat Mitzvah in New Orleans…
Because you people are always trying to hide money. We need money to do Mitzvot.
We need tithing… You wouldn’t give charity otherwise. You would hoard
everything. You wouldn’t pay the extra fifth. You will eat it all and then say,
‘I can’t afford to help out the shul’… Forget about Israel, you don’t even tithe. You
haven’t even paid your dues, Max.
Shabbat Shalom
