Yitro excerpts

Shabbat Shalom

Yitro gives Moshe advice.
Moshe is sitting there all day, answering the peoples' questions. Some very relevant, some less relevant, just as I have had to deal with for the past 10 some-odd years with this community. No concern for my time. No respect for visiting and meeting hours. No appreciation for the inconvenience and irrelevance of their lives...they just come with their petty matters of a worry that they might not have as much free time or might not be able to afford Disney World this year...Letting down little Shmuly, who expects...But, B"H, Yitro comes along and says- I have been dealing with non-Jews and it is nothing like this...He tells Moshe,
(18:18) You will become warn out
This congregation has been wearing its rabbi out with the dumbest....

(18:14) Yitro introduces the matter with 'Why do you sit by yourself?'
This is the problem. When we think we have it all figured out and we do not look to others. When we think it is 'I' who has to do it...Kind of like the school fundraiser last week when Goldfarb said, 'I will take care of the new day school scholarship fund.' Would have been helpful if there were people with money who joined along Mr. Goldfarb. We are happy your bodega is doing well. However, we first need you to fund your children's' scholarship fund. And your shule dues fund....
Yes. Your rabbi sits by himself, but that is because there is nobody in this shule that has ever lifted a hand to help...

Leaders, such as your rabbi, need a vacation. A subsidized vacation. Your rabbi should not have to pay for his vacation, himself...China, Japan, South Africa, a whole world to see...
Sometimes our tasks are too big...And yes, we need to work together. I want to be able to delegate some of the important tasks...But we see what happens...
The Chazan, leading all of davening- he takes too long...That is why we stopped him from leading services recently...

Who are the leaders that have money?...That will pay for your rabbi to be here for another 10 years, with a 12% annual raise?...
(18:21) 'You shall find amongst the people, men of accomplishment, who fear Gd, men of truth, who hate money...'

I would like to involve you all more, but you have seen the gabai, taking money under the table...This community needs better people, with money, who we can trust, so that your rabbi can go on vacation.
