Tzav Excerpts

Shabbat Shalom

Tzav is Parshat HaGadol this year. The Big Shabbat. I can tell you that the numbers in the shul are not big...I can care less about the rain, Bernie. You show up to Shul. It is a big Shabbis. Huge. You show up for the big game.
It is customary for rabbis to give speeches about Pesach and do what is known as Pilpul. Here are the sources. You have them in front of you. Any questions? Exactly. Now you know I know stuff...Check them out. That is called research...22 sources, Bernie. Do I even have to give a speech? You know I know the stuff...

So let's talk about the Parsha. That doesn't mean you should be talking, Bernice...
(8:21) The elevation offering of the inaugural ceremonies of the Cohanim was 'for a satisfying aroma to H.'' How? Because it was as 'He commanded to Moshe.'
The inauguration of the new Sukkah was a disaster last year. All of the dimensions were off...We should have hired a construction worker. Having Michael and Sam build was a disaster. it caused fights and those kids have to shower.

The fires that were being burnt for the Chametz this Friday had no satisfying aromas in them...You don't have to burn the plastic too. That is not what you do Frank. It smelled disgusting.
The whole cutting and slicing and burning and blood letting and sprinkling was done like H' commanded. There was no plastic involved in any of the services. Unless if there was rain and the Cohanim needed to cover their feet when walking outside. They would cover their walking shoes to get to the Temple.
They did as H' commanded. That is what is satisfying.
Burning Chametz is the Mitzvah. Not the burning of plastic bags.

Can we get somebody here who knows how to make a fire, other than myself? My Kashering job was of brilliance...

(8:15) 'Purified the altar' How? By sanctifying the altar with the blood, to provide 'atonement for it.' Purification is done by sanctification, which provides atonement.
The word of purification is the same root as to 'sin.' It is for that which we make the atonement that brings the sanctification. You can only be sanctified if you work through your sins and atone. That is the process of purification. It is one that involves our soul and physical being, the blood.
We put our souls into something. Not one person here put their soul into the building of the Sukkah. You threw it on the kids. They messed it up, because they didn't do it according to the rules. Then we're smelling their sweat, and now we have this impure plastic stench.

What sins have you done here?...Let me tell you. The sin of not caring.
Can you even elevate? No. Because you have not purified. You have not done atonement. You have have nothing that you care about.
Do you take any action to atone for your sins? The purity level in this congregation is none. Nobody wants to use the Mikveh because nobody showers before going into the thing.
Do you even sweat? I am not suggesting to draw blood for a sin that you caused by hurting somebody else. No, you don't. You sit and you shfitz. You don't sweat. You drain water from yourselves from lack of work. Not one of you has donated blood...You atone for the sin of not taking life seriously...

I still spoke about the Parsha...That is what was big Bernie. I stuck to the tradition. Made a satisfying aroma of your lack of ability to read Hebrew...I used to cut and paste the sources. Now, Wikipedia that stuff and Google the sources. Now it is computer cutting and pasting...Not the same. Anybody can do it. It is too easy. But you are fooled by it, because you do not want to take out the time to learn the commandments. The time it takes to be a good Jew, a satisfying aroma. Are you going to learn them at home?...
This is a Big Sermon. Right here on the pages. Huge.

Nobody here is doing the work of our Tiny Temple. Because nobody is in Shul for the services.
Who is going to Duchin? No Cohanim are showing up...You can't purify if you don't atone. If you don't show, you can't atone for the communal sins of being Beis Emes Sefilah.
***These are excerpts from the sermon. For the sermon in its entirety, come see David Kilimnick perform at the Off The Wall Comedy Basement, in downtown Jerusalem.
David also tours as a Maggid around the world, with very few stories.
