Moshe is told to talk to the rock. Then he hits it...Kind of like the way Mr. Goldsmith treats his kids...
(20:12) You didn't believe me, to make me Holy in the eyes of the people of Israel.
Rashi- Talking with the rock would have been a 'Kiddush H'' (a sanctification of Gd). People would have said 'The rock that does not speak or hear, keeps the word of H;' even more so, we should.'
Distrust is why H' does not let Moshe lead the Jews into Israel. He gets punished. Kind of like Mr. Goldsmith who is now serving a three year sentence for child abuse...
Trust in H,' and not frustration with the people would have been a 'Kiddush H.'' Moshe missed that opportunity
How many chances do we miss to make H' holy? Spencer Goldsmith missed the last shot of the game, and our day school lost by one point to Saint Catherine's...That is to profane...
It is always distrust that causes the problems.
Distrust is why there is only a lion head on the ark, with no body or legs.
Distrust is why the rabbi has to show up early to davening (praying services). As he knows he will lose his parking spot.
Distrust is why Mr. Goldsmith is in jail.
Distrust leads to not being MKadesh (making holy) H's name.
Could Mr. Goldsmith have made the situation holy? What do we do when we are mad? Hit the rock. Hit people. Smacking is acceptable...He could not afford the new motorbike his child wanted...Whining...
A leader must listen to H' and deal with you people. And it is hard to deal with you people.
Being told, that you have to blah blah blah, and blah blah blah. That is what it sounds like...
But whose fault is it that Moshe is not to bring this 'Kahal' into Israel?

Right away, again, they think H' is going to give them everything, and they complain, like the shule's secretary...
Complaining, complaining. Of course Moshe struck the rock. The same reason why your rabbi hit the Kiddush table, because you people don't shut up...
If we were able to trust our children, and they would stop whining all the time, there would be no need for whacking. If the teenagers in this shule would...
And as we see, it is the people's fault...Your fault...
