Bo Excerpts

Shabbat Shalom

(12:24) 'And you shall guard this thing as a decree for you and your children, forever.' Mike's children can't even remember the Aleph Bet...Teach them something. At least transliterate it. Your kids sit in shul like a bunch...Charlie and Ann's children were reading in kindergarten. Maybe we have different standards.
After we are told what to do with the Pascal offering, we are told that this is something to do forever. Kind of like Bernie's sneezing. Forever.

You don't just remember stuff. You do something and then commemorate it. We must have the Pascal lamb...I do not know if Webster's dictionary has a Pascal in it. I am sorry Fran...
We are not going to reenact the Jeff & Gary shul choolanteoff again. That is something we do not have to remember. There is no reason to commemorate...We didn't even commemorate the death of Hymie Feldstein...Nobody put up for a plaque Bernie. You want to?

(12:26-27) When your children ask 'What is this service to you?'...You tell them this is the Pesach offering to H,' as He passed over our houses.
And yes, success has passed over many of the houses in this community. But we are talking about being saved from a plague.

The mouse in the shul has haunted us for the past three weeks. A plague?
We didn't mention during the Bat Mitzvah, as we didn't want Rivka's friends running out of the place. But it was spotted by Mrs. Goldenherring. We appreciate your spotting it and doing nothing about it...
Setting up traps. You cannot trap animals on Shabbis. You have to create diversions. Kind of like if you like to Jack's front area on the right side of the shul, you will notice nobody is sitting there...Nobody wants to talk to Jack, so everybody stays away from him. It is the opposite of a trap. It causes people to divert.
We only have on Jack. So we have to create other diversions.

By commemorating, it is not just a service 'to you.' It is a shared service. A shared memory.
We do, in order to remember. What has this congregation done? Nothing that anybody would want to remember...We have commemorated the mouse in the shul and Simone praying the whole service while standing on her chair, yearly, for the past 5 years.

You set up a mouse trap, in order to remember what it is to break the laws of Shabbis. That is what Frank does...
Do you let your fear control whether you keep mitzvot or not? You guard the laws of Shabbis. Commemorate it every week. And you guard your children and call an exterminator during the week...Yes, Bernie. you hire a secretary who does their job.
And when your children ask you, 'What is this service to you?,' you can answer them, 'This is a service in Hebrew, and you should learn how to read it. And we come to shul to pray, because the choolante is not that good when Jeff & Gary make it.'

David also tours as a Maggid around the world, with very few stories.
