Noach Excerpts

Shabbat Shalom

Noach. The Tzadik in his generation. Is there anybody that even did anything decent in this shul?...

(9:20-24) Ham doesn't respect his father's privacy. Kind of like Menachem, who doesn't let his parents sleep on Shabbat afternoon.
Noach gets drunk and like all of us, he uncovers himself. I've taken of my Yarmulke before. If you remember last Purim, I took off my Kippah and put on a baseball hat. The whole shul saw my naked hairline...Ham sees his father, naked and thinks it is naked time. Makes a whole to do about it. Ham, like a fool, goes out to tell his brothers 'You've got to see this.'
This isn't a freak show. This isn't the Ferchman family.
His brothers make sure to not see their father, Noach, and they cover him. Sometimes, killing a good time is the right thing to do. For that, we thank the Chazan.

It is your job to make sure your father doesn't do stupid stuff. And that is what the brothers understood. I understand that it is hard to do that in Bluchstein family, but you have to get involved sometimes. And let us give a mention to the real estate investment of the Rozsowitzes. Parents do have dumb ideas sometimes. Like scholarships for day school, and to get rid of donations as well.
Your father getting in a fight at Kiddush with Bernie...Bernie has herring strength.
The BBQ, taking all the burgers for himself. That was the one smart thing that Mr. Bluchstein did.
Yelling at the little league baseball umpire. They are in third grade...You have to know when your dad messes up. The problem is you all think your dad is perfect. Look at the home you live in, and you will know there is no perfection in this community. There is not one Tzadik.
All of you think your parents are perfect. Accept that...But you must respect your parents, and that is partially knowing when they mess up. When they mess up, it is a matter of showing respect to their physical well being. Show them that respect. Don't laugh at their nakedness. Trust me, it gets worse as you get older. Especially when you are past your 300s. That is when all goes to pot. You care for their physical well being when they get older. You don't throw them in an old age home for nurses to laugh at their nakedness...
Embarrassment

(9:25) Noach knows what Cham did.
It comes back to you. People find out. Your dad, Shiran, is going to find out that you let him make a fool of himself, throwing his shirt at the umpire...You should have known he was spiking the juice box. His shirt came off for a balk. Kids ran under the bleachers...Frank didn't have a seat this Yom Kippur because his dad took him out of the will...That was failure. Nothing on purpose. Just failure. Many people say success is money. No. Success is being put in the will. Having a good spot in the will is the key.

And we see the generations that follow. (9:32) From Noach's children the nations are separated on the earth, after the flood.
Tragedy brings us together, but after that, we disperse, and we forget we are family, just as Ham was willing to laugh at his father's embarrassment, after the flood. And that is why we have to keep our eyes on the Bluchstein family...Nobody wants to be sitting alone, in shul, on Yom Kippur, with no seat, because family means nothing to them...Yes. You too, Bernie. I don't know what you did, but...
