VaYakhel Excerpts

Shabbat Shalom

(36:13) They attached the Mishkan together and it became one. That is how you put things together, The Bimah is not even a stage. You can't call it a stage. It is four un-put together pieces of wood. The shottiest job I have ever seen...The platforms aren't even the same height. It was spreading apart in the middle of Torah reading last week. I split my pants, Chaim.
Why? It was not attached...This congregation is not attached.
How many of you open your homes to the Simblooth family?...So what if they want to stay? Crash?...

And all the Chacham Lev (wise-hearted) (36:8). You need smart people and you need to make things happen together. The word חבר is used countless times (36:10). The same root as friend. To become one, you have to first come together, attached...So we don't have the wise-hearted. We don't have the smart people in this congregation. But maybe we can build that Lego castle together. Maybe we can Lincoln Log a little stage. We are not on the level of the Mishkan. But we can make our level happen. We have many people here, in this congregation with GEDs. Many got through the fifth grade, in a breeze...We need togetherness. As individuals, this congregation lacks...We cannot accomplish much as individuals...
We are going to now get into a circle of love. Everybody hold hands, it is Israeli dancing time...No Bernie, you are not allowed to go into the women's section for this. It is a circle of male love. And I want the women to have their female love circle...No more of that Yiddin, electric slide line dancing. We are circling right now. Jewish style. Grab the hand of the one in front of you..
Some very annoying people. But we come together, as a circle of friends...Not that bad, when you are just dancing and you don't have to talk to the Simblooths...

***These are excerpts from the sermon. For the sermon in its entirety, come see David Kilimnick perform at the Off The Wall Comedy Basement, in downtown Jerusalem.
David also tours as a Maggid around the world, with very few stories.
